Putting the humanity back in Real Estate

As I am writing this post, Kevin and I have just spent the last week at the Inman Connect conference in New York City. Inman Connect is an incredible conference that combines the latest Real Estate tech and information from top agents throughout the world. This is my third time attending the conference and each time I feel like my head is going to explode with knowledge and takeaways that the W&Y Homes Co. Team can implement to help our buyer and seller clients. 

Throughout the 4 day conference, we were introduced to different things such as CRM systems, how video is changing the Real Estate landscape, and cool new Virtual Reality tools. All of this was pretty fantastic and there are very many new apps, systems, and social media tools we are going to implement when we return to Toronto. Being ahead of the curve is something that we always strive for and we like to be early adopters of new technology and new ways to provide information and make the transaction as smooth as possible for all of our clients. 

While it is very easy to get caught up with technology, the final speaker of the conference really got under my skin, but in a good way. He talked about how wonderful it is that there is technology to guide the Real Estate process but at the end of the day we have cannot forget to “put the humanity back in Real Estate”. I think this is something that many agents forget. It is awesome to have a cool website that gets 10,000 hits a day or a sleek app that buyers can search properties on, but if there is no relationship between the agent and the client, what do we have? Real Estate has always been built on relationships and agents help guide buyers in sellers with what is typically the largest transaction they are ever going to make. There has to be an emotional connection there and buyers and sellers really need to lean on their agents. As a Real Estate Agent we wear so many different hats from an advisor to a couples counselor and all that is in between. You will never be able to buy that relationship with technology. 

I believe in embracing new technology and that is something we will continue to do but the W&Y Homes Co. Team will always remember that relationships come first. That will never change and our business model is based on referrals and making sure our clients are completely taken care of. My advice for anyone searching for an agent, make sure you meet them and develop a connection with them. Cool websites and apps can be attractive but I guarantee a great relationship with your agent will make your real estate transaction so much smoother.
