Not everyone can afford to hire an interior decorator to come into their home and transform into one of luxury. If you’re like most people, you’ve probably got a budget to stick to, and that includes with your home decor. Luckily there are simple ways to add some flair to your space without blowing your budget.
Here are 3 tips for decorating your home affordably:
1 – Save a Bundle With Stock Items
Custom framing, reupholstering, expert sewing and other skilled labour can add up in no time, and easily blow your budget out of the water. To help you keep your funds in control, stick to stock items whenever possible. For example, buy standard window blinds that are a little larger than your window, and mount them outside the frames. Buy picture frames off the shelf, and trim photos to make them fit. Buy stock cabinets and finish them yourself for a custom look. A little creativity can go a long way.
2 – Decorate With Unexpected Accessories
You don’t have to stick to the typical decorative accessory, such as a vase or picture frame. Think outside the box a little for some unexpected flair. Fill a clear bowl with bright green apples to add a pop of colour to a space. Stack some vintage hardback books to add some character and dimension to an end table. Pile seashells and other shore collectables to give a room a natural feel.
3 – Reuse Items You Already Own
Redecorating doesn’t necessarily mean you have to run out and buy all new items. Sometimes reusing items you already have in a much different way can be just the thing that will add some character to a room. An old couch doesn’t have to be discarded or reupholstered – instead, make it over with a new slipcover in a great fabric. Take plan old throw pillows and add some decorative stitching to them. Take your old dresser and add a coat of fresh glossy paint in a totally different colour. There’s no better way to stretch your budget than reinventing what you’ve already got!
