4 DIY Green Cleaning Solutions For Your Home

There are a number of cleaning products on the market, but many of them are laced with hazardous chemicals that are dangerous when exposed to for long periods of time. Manufacturers are therefore coming up with “green” cleaners that have more natural ingredients, but why not save a few bucks and make your own that are just as effective as store-bought products?

Here are 4 DIY green cleaning solutions to make yourself to keep your home clean andhealthy.

Bathroom Tub and Tile Cleaner

In a spray bottle, mix 1 2/3 cup of baking soda, 1/2 cup of liquid dish soap, 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and 1/2 cup of water. Shake well before using, and rinse it off thoroughly with a clean cloth.

All-Purpose Kitchen Cleaner

Combine 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and 1/2 teaspoon of dish soap into a spray bottle. Shake it up well, and let it settle for about a minute before adding some warm water. If you’d like to provide your kitchen with a fresh scent, add a few drops of essential oil in the scent of your choice to the mixture.

Laundry Fabric Softener

You don’t have to add chemical-laced fabric softener products to your laundry in order to get soft, plump, fresh-smelling clothes after the wash. Instead, all you need is 1 cup of white vinegar added either to wash or rinse cycle. You might even want to add a few other ingredients to the mix, including 1/2 cup of baking soda along with the vinegar.

Natural Air Freshener

Rather than spraying toxic chemicals into the air to give off a pleasant smell, make your own concoction using eco-friendly ingredients. In a spray bottle, mix 1 oz rubbing alcohol, 6 oz filtered water, and 30 drops of essential oil, such as peppermint, jasmine, or citrus oils. This mixture can be used to freshen up shoes, smelly hockey bags, carpets, and any other part of the home that needs some freshening up!
