Lifestyle

The best known shopping district in Riverdale is situated along Danforth Ave, just east of Broadview. The Danforth is the crux of Toronto's Greek community, and boasts many top-notch Greek restaurants and an eclectic abundance of shops. The Grecian influence is clearly displayed in this stretch of the Danforth, which eludes a sense of warmth. 

During the summer, the sidewalks of the Danforth are overflowing with gorgeous planters and fresh local produce. The widely known ‘Taste of the Danforth’ happens every summer, where residents and tourists alike can enjoy all the sights, sounds and tastes of classic Greek culture.

Shopping in Riverdale is in abundance, with a Chinatown shopping district also located within twos neighbourhood around Gerrard and Broadview. This strip of shops is well-known for its bakeries, food stands, and eateries. Queen Broadview Village is also located within Riverdale, offering up some interesting antique and collectible shops. A large indoor shopping mall with more 70 stores is also located at Gerrard Square on the corner of Pape Ave and Gerrard St.

Although very close to the concrete jungle of Toronto’s downtown core, Riverdale also offers residents with an abundance of greenspace and parks. In fact, Riverdale Park to the east is one of the city’s biggest greenspaces, with steep hills being a favourite among avid tobogganers, and Withrow Park to the west is popular for its farmers market. 

A myriad of parks and parkettes are peppered throughout Riverdale, with many featuring tennis courts, wading pools, ice rinks, running tracks, and baseball diamonds. The Jimmie Simpson and Rec Centres feature an indoor pool, gym and games room, perfect for adults and children alike to pass the time in an active manner.
